Near Apostle Islands and along the shores of Lake Superior will be the home of a new $23.5 million casino. The Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa from the Shakopee Mdewaknton Sioux Community were able to secure the loan for the new project.
The new gaming facility is designed to operate 300 slot machines and 8 gaming tables. There will be a restaurant and bar that will accommodate 60 visitors. In addition there will be a snack bar with 24 seats. Also planned is a hotel with a 50 guest rooms and a swimming pool. The hotel will also provide conference and banquet facilities with 300 seats. There will also be an entertainment center.
110 construction jobs will be created. An additional 50 new casino jobs will be added at completion. This will add to the current 90 casino employees.
Construction is to begin sometime late summer or early fall. The tribe is hopeful the open the new casino in approximately 12 months from the start of construction.
