Kansas begins sports betting negotiations with Indian casinos
June 24, 2022
Kansas Governor Laura Kelly held a ceremonial signing Monday for the state's new sports betting bill. After signing Gov. Kelly mentioned the state has begun a process to extend sports betting to all tribal casinos.
Tribal casinos interested in sports betting can submit a request to the Governor to negotiate the sports betting into their state-tribe gaming compacts. The Governor would then forward the negotiations to the Kansas Lottery Director, who would finalize the agreements with the tribes. Final review and approval would come for the U.S. Secretary of the Interior.
Kansas legalized mobile and retail sports betting last week when Governor Laura Kelly signed Bill 84 into law. The legislation was passed by the House and Senate in April and gives the Kansas Lottery and the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission oversight of statewide sports betting.
