Nevada's Tribal-Owned Casinos | Updates 2024

All casino gaming in Nevada is regulated and controlled by the Nevada Gaming Commission except for four Indian gaming operations regulated by the National Indian Gaming Commission. In recent years a few major tribes have become owner/operators of Nevada commercial casinos.

Native American Casinos in Las Vegas

In 2021 three major Native American tribes came to Las Vegas to operate state-licensed casinos (not indian gaming casinos).

  • Mohegan Tribe (Connecticut)
    Mohegan Casino Las Vegas

The first Native American-operated casino in Las Vegas is the Mohegan Casino at Virgin Hotels. The Mohegan Casino Las Vegas is not an Indian gaming casino. The casino is licensed by the Nevada Gaming Control Board.

  • San Manual Tribe (California)
    Palm Casino Resort

Another out-of-state tribe is purchasing the Palm Casino Resort in Las Vegas. The transaction was approved by the Nevada gaming Commission on Dec 17, 2021. The Palms Casino Resort will be reopened in the spring of 2022 by the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians, owners of the Yaamava' Resort Casino in Highland, California. The Yaamava' is the largest casino resort west of Las Vegas.

  • Seminole Tribe of Florida
    Hard Rock Las Vegas

The Seminoles own Hard Rock International which is buying The Mirage Hotel and Casino. The sale should be finalized in the second half of 2022, after which the property will be rebranded as "Hard Rock Las Vegas".

Nevada's Indian Gaming Casinos

Only two of Nevada's 32 tribes operate casinos. The Moapa Band of Paiutes own the Moapa Paiute Travel Plaza located 30 miles north of Las Vegas on I-15, and the Washoe Tribe owns the Wa She Shu Casino & Travel Plaza located 16 miles south of Carson City. A California tribe, the Fort Mojave Indian Tribe in Needles, CA, owns a casino in Laughlin, NV named Avi Resort & Casino.
