New Las Vegas Casino planned by North Dakota Tribe

March 15, 2025

MHA Nation of North Dakota has spent $115 million in recent years to purchase 23 acres of land across the Strip from the Luxor. Until now, the tribe has not indicated a specific plan for the land.

Last month the MHA Nation took its first official step towards developing a casino-hotel when it filed an application pre-review with the Clark County planning department. The pre-review ensures the application will be complete and correct when it is submitted. The Clark County records show only a general project description. No project details will be available until the project application is filed.

"I'm expecting to see something pretty significant."

- County Commissioner Jim Gibson

Tribal Chairman Mark Fox has previously said the casino project will have $2 billion in outside funding. He also said he is seeking a professional sports team to move into a 15,000-20,000 seat event center planned for the casino. The team might possibly be a new NBA expansion team.

Last August, Gov. Joe Lombardo met with Chairman Fox to discuss the tribe's plans. According to Elizabeth Ray, a spokeswoman for the governor, Lombardo is "supportive of their plans and welcomes new investment in Las Vegas."
