WarHorse Casino Omaha

The Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska and the Nebraska Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association (HBPA) have partnered to build the $250 million WarHorse Casino in Omaha, Nebraska. The Tribe's WarHorse Gaming LLC manages the casino operation.

The Omaha casino location is Horsemen's Park near 63rd and Q streets. After the groundbreaking July 27, 2022, construction proceeded in phases. When completed in Spring 2025, the casino will feature 1,150 slot machines, 19 live table games and a sportsbook.

A Temporary Casino opened inside Horsemen's Park in September 2022. Sports betting was added Nov. 1, 2023.

In addition to Warhorse Casino in Omaha, there are two other WarHorse casinos built and managed by WarHorse Gaming LLC. These are Warhorse Lincoln in Lincoln, NE, and Warhorse South Sioux City in South Sioux City, NE.

The expansion at WarHorse Omaha comes only eight months after its grand opening in August 2024. It adds the following new features:

• 400 more slot machines (total is now 1,150)

• New, separate smoking area

• A skywalk from the casino to the parking structure

• Nebraska Ale Haus - a new casual dining venue with craft beers and comfort foods.

• Trifecta Food Hall - featuring BBQ selections, Asian food, salads and desserts.

WarHorse Omaha is the second Nebraska casino to complete an expansion project in April. Grand Island Casino Resort also opened an expansion with 650 more slot machines, 20 more table games, a hotel and spa, and new restaurants.

Ho-Chunk Inc. Celebrates 30 Years

Ho-Chunk Inc., the economic development and social advancement company of the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska, celebrated its 30th anniversary this week. Last year Ho-Chunk Inc. reported $417 million in annual revenues and employment of 2,000 workers.

Ho-Chunk, Inc. operates the WarHorse Casino in Omaha, the WarHorse Casino in Lincoln, and the WarHorse Atokad Park in South Sioux City. The company is also engaged in federal contracting, residential and commercial construction, real estate development and management, and Ho-Chunk Farms.

WarHorse Casino Omaha Opens Today!

August 6, 2024

WarHorse Casino in Omaha is celebrating its grand opening today. A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at the west entrance to the casino following a few short speeches by casino officials. The first bets are expected to be placed about 9:45 AM.

Public guests are invited to line up at the east entrance to the casino, and doors will open immediately after the ribbon-cutting event. Minimum age to enter is 21. WarHorse Omaha features 800 slot machines, 10 table games, a sportsbook, and the Sweetwater Cafe. Future expansion place will add more slot machines, more dining venues, and a 200-room hotel.

Last week the Nebraska Racing and Gaming Commission (NRGC) voted unanimously to approve the Aug. 6th opening date and also approved a 24/7 operation for the casino.

Warhorse Omaha will open with 800 slot machines, 19 live table games, a sportsbook, simulcast betting, a the Sweetwater Cafe. Next April the slot machines will be expanded to 1,150, there will be a main entrance, new restaurants, and a skywalk connecting the parking garage.

The Winnebago Tribe established Ho-Chunk, Inc. as its gaming company in 1994. In addition to the new WarHorse Casinos in Omaha, Lincoln and South Sioux City, Ho-Chunk operates Iron Horse Bar & Casino in Emerson, NE, Native Star Casino in Winnebago, NE, and WinnaVegas Casino & Resort in Sloan, Iowa.

Construction of the new casino at WarHorse Omaha was completed last week, and the finishing work will be done in time for the casino to open its doors to the public on August 6, 2024. The grand opening will be celebrated August 9th.

WarHorse Omaha visitors must be 21 or older to enter. The casino will feature 800 slot machines, 19 live table games, sports betting, and simulcast racing. The horse track has new dirt and has been upgraded for future facing. There will be one live horse race this year. The future plan is to have eight days of racing each year.

A second phase of construction will be finished by next April. This will add a main entrance, restaurants, a skywalk from the parking garage to the casino, and an increase in slot machines to 1,150.

Warhorse Casino Omaha Construction | March 2024 Update

Construction on Omaha's WarHorse Casino is ahead of schedule and will be completed in August rather than September 2024. According to Lynne McNally, CEO of the Nebraska Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association, the construction crews are currently working inside the casino to complete the remaining interior work.

According to McNally, construction crews inside Warhorse Casino Omaha are painting, finishing woodwork, laying the final wires, and installing surveillance cameras.

WarHorse Casino Omaha construction is on schedule for 2024 opening

There has been a lot of construction activity outside the WarHorse Casino in Omaha as crews work hard to transform the former Horsemen's Park into an all-new casino and racetrack, aka racino. The opening date is scheduled for Sept. 2024.

Sports betting at WarHorse Casino Omaha was approved Oct. 23 by the Nebraska Racing and Gaming Commission. Ten kiosks for placing bets have been set up in the temporary building on the race track infield. A permanent sportsbook venue will replace this next year.

The external construction has completed 1,400 deep pilings that are 65 feet deep each, which are needed to expand the building. The 500-vehicle parking structure has been paneled, and a skywalk is planned that will connect to the casino.

The internal construction has removed all the Horsemen's Park structure to install new casino games, food venues, and visitor accommodations. The liquor license was approved Oct. 24.

WarHorse Casino Omaha approved for sports betting

Sports betting at WarHorse Casino Omaha could begin as early as Nov. 1 after Friday's approval by the Nebraska Racing and Gaming Commission. The approval is contingent on meeting 14 conditions related to security issues.

After the official groundbreaking for the WarHorse Casino in Omaha in July 2022, the first construction projects were not easily visible to the public. These included infrastructure features including water systems, sewers, roads, and foundations.

WarHorse Omaha Construction Plans 2023-2024

Construction of WarHorse Gaming in Omaha is expected to start this month. According to Lynne McNally, CEO of Nebraska Horsemen, a partial casino with 800 slot machines will open within a year, possibly in June or July 2024. The full casino will open near the end of 2024 featuring 1,300 slot machines and 19 live table games.

"We want to provide Nebraskans with the gaming opportunities they resoundingly approved back in 2020 and start boosting property tax relief as soon as possible."

Since the groundbreaking July 2022, all construction has focused on preparing infrastructure. The sewer and water systems have been updated, road work is completed, and the foundation is ready for the five-story parking garage.

Warhorse Omaha casino will open in summer 2024

WarHorse Gaming will begin construction on its Omaha casino in June. Construction will be fully completed by the end of 2024. During construction the casino will partially open next year in June or July 2024. Although the ground breaking was held almost a year ago, construction of the casino has been delayed for upgrading the water and sewer systems and for completion of road work.

WarHorse Gaming's partial Omaha casino will open in Summer 2024 with 850-800 slot machines. The final casino will open by the end of 2024 with 1,300 slot machines, 19 live table games, a sportsbook, horse racing, restaurants and a 5-story parking.

Warhorse Casino Omaha receives operators license

November 13, 2022

WarHorse Casino Omaha has been granted an operator's license by the Nebraska Racing & Gaming Commission this week. The Omaha casino is currently under construction at Horsemen's Park with a scheduled opening in August 2023.

When completed Warhorse Omaha will feature 1,150 slot machines, 19 live table games, a sportsbook, and multiple dining options. The casino is a partnership of the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska and the Nebraska Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association (NHBPA)

The issuance of the license secures $700 million financial committment from Ho-Chunk Inc., a subsidiary of the Winnebago Tribe. Ho-Chunk, Inc. is building WarHorse Casinos in Omaha, Lincoln and South Sioux City. The company currently owns and operates the WinnaVegas Casino Resort in Sloan, Iowa.

WarHorse Casino breaks ground in Omaha

WarHorse Gaming has broken ground at Horsemen's Park to build the WarHorse Casino Omaha. The event was held July 27 following a similar groundbreaking ceremony two weeks ago for the WarHorse Casino Lincoln.

Construction of the new casino is expected to take 18 months to complete. The casino will feature 1,150 slots machines, 19 live table games, live and simulcast horse racing, and a sportsbook.

WarHorse Gaming is a division of Ho-Chunk, Inc., which is owned by the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska.

Warhorse Casino Omaha plans groundbreaking this summer

June 3, 2022

The Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska is planning to start construction by late summer on the new Warhorse Casino at Horsemen's Park in Omaha, Nebraska. The construction and overhaul project at the racetrack will cost $220 million.

The exact start date will be determined by the Nebraska Racing and Gaming Commission. The commission is meeting this week to finalize the licensing and annual assessment fees for each racetrack casino. When the fees are set, the casinos can proceed with their licensing applications along with their construction plans.

The commission will take 30 to 60 days to review and approve each application. The first application approvals could be announced in early August. Construction could start immediately and completion would be expected by the summer of 2023.
