20 years ago in November Harrah's Cherokee Casino first opened.
Since that time the tourism numbers in the state have risen due to the casino.
61 million visitors have visited the casino in that time.
It opened in 1997. 15 years later card games and live dealers were added.
The casino is owned by the Eastern Band of Cherokee. They wanted a way to make a
better life for their people. The revenue earned from their casinos have been
doing that. Nearly $12,000 is paid to each member. Minors have their money
placed into a trust fund.
