An announcement was made on Tuesday that the Ojibwa II Casino expansion will
begin construction on the $33.5 million expansion project next month. Officials
for the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community made the announcement at Harvey's Silver
Creek Church.
Plans include a new hotel, restaurant, convention space, and a new casino area.
The convention center will take over the current casino floor location. The
capacity will be for 400 people.
Currently there are 289 slot machines in operation at the casino. After the
gaming floor is moved the new casino space will offer 500 gaming machines. There
will also be the new addition of table games.
The hotel will have 76 guest rooms. It will be three stories tall. The hotel
will offer a spa and pool.
Construction is scheduled to begin on July 24. The new casino area is expected
to be completed by September 01, 2018. The hotel is expected to be completed on
September 15, 2018. The entire project is to be finished by December 31, 2018.
