The Little River Band of Ottawa Indians has made progress towards the
development of their proposed casino.
The tribe wants to build a casino in Muskegon County. However for this to
happen, there will need to be an amendment to the compact with the state.
An announcement was made on Saturday that the state senate and Gov. Rick Snyder
have granted approval for the federal government to review the case.
With the approval comes the wavier of section 9. This means that the tribe will
be able to approach the government and ask for the needed permits without the
governor needing to give his complete approval for the project to move forward.
However, the tribe will need to approach the governor again after obtaining the
permits. he will still be the one that will need to give final approval before
the casino can be built.
The tribe has been trying since 2012 to have the wavier granted.
