A report was released by the American Gaming Association showing that 1,500 new
jobs were created by the two casinos in Maine.
The two casinos are Hollywood Casino in Bangor and Oxford Casino. Without the
casino, it is suggested that the unemployment rate would be at 6.4 percent.
Currently, it is 5.8 percent.
800 jobs were created directly related to the casinos. 300 indirect jobs were
also created. These are from casino suppliers and vendors. Money spent from
casino employees have also created an additional 300 jobs.
$83 million has been paid to the state by the casinos in fees and taxes.
Washington County may also be a third casino location. The Passamaquoddy tribe
is interested in developing a casino there.
