On Wednesday Las Vegas based, Harrah's Entertainment Inc, announced they are no
longer pursuing their plans for their south Wichita casinos. Reason for the
withdrawal was not given, only that it came after careful consideration. One
month earlier, Harrah's reported a loss of $274 million. They also reported debt
of $22 billion.
The proposed casino was to be located near Mulvane. Include a hotel with 100
guest rooms. The total cost for the project was $260 million.
Kansas state Lottery Commission is currently reviewing proposals for a south
central Kansas casino from 2 other companies. Both of these proposals are
expected to be approved. One of the companies is affiliated with the Chickasaw
Nation. The other is part of Peninsula Gaming in Iowa.
After a casino project proposal is approved, it will then be sent to the state
review board to discuss who will build and manage the casino.
