A $5 million expansion is being planned for Sioux City's Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.

The casino opened in August 2014.

Plans for the project include adding 8,000 additional square feet the the main floor. An area for high stakes gaming is planned. Also two more blackjack tables and 50 more slot machines. A private lounge and wine bar have also been planned.

Visitor requests are the reason for the expansion.

Before further plans can be made, the casino must receive several approvals.

The Sioux City Council. The council will meet on Monday to discuss the project. It is expected that the Planning and Zoning Commission will recommend the project be approved.

The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission will also be meeting to discuss the expansion for the casino. The commission over sees the state's gaming regulations. That meeting will be held on Thursday.

If the project is given all of the needed approvals, construction would beginning this summer and be finished in approximately 6 months.
