A new alternative location for the Wilton Rancheria tribe's casino has been
announced. As of now the preferred location is on 282 acres in Galt. However the
tribe is requesting that 39.5 acres be taken into trust in Elk Grove.
The Howard Hughes Corporation owns the land that the tribe wants to use. The
Outlet Collection at Elk Grove is a project currently being built next to the
proposed casino location.
The land has not been officially bought by the tribe. However, a land purchase
agreement has been signed.
The proposed casino will operate 2,000 gaming machines. There will be an event
venue of 30,000 square feet. There will also be 302 guest rooms in the 12 story
tall hotel. The cost of the project will be over $400 million. It will take 12
to 18 months to complete. After the construction is finished there will be 2,000
job created.
Elk Grove will hold a town hall meeting to discuss the proposed casino project.
