SACRAMENTO - Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed the bill to overhaul state bingo
regulations late yesterday. The final measure was a compromise between large
charities and Indian casinos that play bingo.
The bill bans charities from using electronic bingo machines but allows them to
play so-called "remote-caller" games in which players at several different sites
are linked together electronically into one big game.
California tribes opposed the use of electronic machines by charities because
they believe they are an encroachment on their exclusive right to operate slot
machines.
