EXPANDED GAMBLING LAW 2007
Kansas has enacted a new gambling law authorizing construction of four
state-owned resort casinos and adding slot machines to race tracks in Kansas
City, KS and southeast Kansas.The new casinos will be built in Wyandotte County, Sumner County, Ford County
(Dodge City), and either Cherokee or Crawford County.
Applications to develop and manage a resort casino must be filed with the Kansas
Lottery Commission by December 28th. The minimum investment is $225 million per
casino except Dodge City is $5 million. The Lottery Commission will then
have 90 days to negotiate contracts with qualified developers. These
contracts will be reviewed by a seven-member board, which will have 60 days to
select the managers of the four casinos. The board selections will be sent
to the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission for final approval which is expected
by mid-2008.
