Beloit Casino Project Status - Aug. 2023
August 16, 2023
The recent election of Jon Greendeer as Ho-Chunk president has revived plans for a tribal casino in Beloit. Greendeer supported the project during his previous tenure as tribal president from 2011 to 2015. The recent president, Marlon White Eagle, was cautious and hesitant about the project, especially with the financial impact of COVID-19.
The Beloit casino resort will be one of the largest in the state. It will be a $705 million investment to build the casino, a hotel, convention center and a water park.
Greendeer has restated the tribe's commitment to building the casino. Gov. Tony Evers approved the project in March 2021, and the U.S. Department of the Interior approved it in May 2022. Beloit's Common Council is currently waiting the casino's final development plans.
Per an agreement, the Beloit casino will pay 2% of its gaming profits to local governments. Beloit will receive 70% of payments, and Rock County will receive the remaining 30%.
Further information on the final design and the timelines are not available at this time.
