Mohegan Sun Casino launches 3-year expansion, renovation projects

The Mohegan Tribe issued a press release this month announcing a three-year program to expand and enhance the Mohegan Sun Casino, its flagship casino near New London, Connecticut. The strategy is to add new appeal in attracting high-roller players.

Here is a summary of key features:

New VIP Lounge & Bar in Casino of the Earth
Construction is underway on a 6,500 square-foot VIP Lounge & Bar located next to BALLO Italian Kitchen & Bar. The new venue will feature dining, a full bar and a central fireplace. The opening is scheduled for this fall.

Sachem Lounge in Casino of the Sky
A major renovation project inside the Sachem Lounge will commence upon completion of the new VIP Lounge & Bar.

Summer Entrance
Several upgrades and additions are coming to the outside patio at Mohegan Sun's Summer Entrance. The additions include a music stage, a permanent outdoor bar, a deck, and a re-designed lawn area for games and activities. This project will be completed in 2023.

New Restaurants
An announcement for new restaurants to be added at Mohegan Sun is expected soon.

The Royal Suites
More than $3 millions will upgrade the two Royal Suites in Sky Tower. These suites 3,500-square-feet suites will be redesigned with a "fire & water" theme.

Mohegan Sun Golf Club
A multi-phase renovation project will improve and redesign several parts of this golf course located in Baltic, CT. This is a three-year project.

Mohegan Sun Casino celebrates 25th anniversary

Mohegan Sun Casino is celebrating its 25th anniversary throughout the entire month of October. The celebration includes special deals and giveaways, gaming promotions, headline entertainment and dining and retail specials. Mohegan Sun reached its 25th year milestone last Tuesday.

The "Collect and Win" promotion gives Momentum cardholders a chance to win Free Slot Play prizes and up to $50,000 cash, and the $250,000 Anniversary Slot Sweepstakes will share $250,000 in cash with lucky slot machine players.

Mohegan Sun named Best Casino Hotel

Mohegan Sun has been named the 2020 Best Casino Hotel by USA Today's 10Best Readers' Choice Awards. This is the third consecutive year that Mohegan Sun has received this award. The casino has also won other major awards this year as Casino Player Magazine's Best of Gaming 2020 and Forbes' America's Best-In-State Employers.

The Mohegan Sun has three hotel towers with a total of 1,560 rooms. The casino features 5,000 slot machines, 350 table games and 33 poker tables.

Mohegan Sun reopens June 1

May 23, 2020

Mohegan Sun announced it will reopen June 1 in coordination with the opening of Foxwoods Resort Casino. Safety protocols will limits visitors, gaming, restaurants and hotel. Buses will not be accepted from New York or Massachusetts.

All visitors and employees must wear masks. Temperatures will be scanned at entry.

GAMING
Casino of the Sky will be open. Some slot machines will be turned off to provide safer distancing between guests. Likewise, the number of chairs at the gaming table will be reduced for safe distancing. The Poker room and Racebook will be closed.

RESTAURANTS AND BARS
Some restaurants and bars will be open and others closed. Those that are open will have reduced seating and wider table separations.

The open restaurants and bars include Bobby's Burger Palace, Sachem Lounge, Sky Food Court and Todd English's Tuscany. The others will be temporarily closed. They include the Seasons Buffet and Wolf Den.

HOTEL
The Sky Hotel will be open to guest from Connecticut and Rhode Island only. The Mandara Spa and the pools will be closed.

MOHEGAN SUN ARENA
Temporarily closed.

OTHER
No valet service. Line Run and Charter Buses will not operate until further notice.

Mohegan Sun opening Expo Center in late June

The Mohegan Sun Expo Center is on schedule to open in June of this year.

Already the center is taking reservations for events and conventions. The annual boat show for the Connecticut Marine Trades Association will be held there. So will the Barrett-Jackson car auction. As of now there are 15 events planned to take place at the new center.

Located between the Winter Garage and the Earth Tower the new center is 237,000 square feet. The structural design has eliminated most of the columns and has open space that can be divided. There is also a ballroom that is 20,000 square feet.

The open areas of the center will make the space versatile and make it easier to divide for different events.

To attack new clients to the center, the casino is promoting hotel room rates and ample free parking. One goal is to bring in convention clients that normally hold their events elsewhere. Such as in larger markets like Atlantic City, Boston, Washington, D.C., Providence, and Hartford.

The casino believes that there will be plenty of parking space availability to accommodate everyone. Trade shows can be held during the day. Large arena event shows can be held at night. During the week, convention visitors will be there.

In March of 2017 construction began on the project. Last September was the topping off ceremony.

The finishing work is going on now. This includes carpentry, completing the electrical, taping, and painting. Signs are also being made.
