The Great Wolf Lodge at Foxwoods Resort Casino is now open! Hours are 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM daily. A soft opening was held Friday April 25, and the official grand opening will be celebrated Friday May 9.

Foxwoods Celebrates 33 Years | History

February 23, 2025

No one could foresee all the phenomenal growth and innovations of Foxwoods Resort Casino since it first opened on February 15, 1992. The Foxwoods story was born a few years earlier as a bingo hall started by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation.

Here is the timeline of the Foxwoods' amazing story:

1986: Foxwoods opened a high-stakes bingo hall on Indian reservation land in Mashantucket, Connecticut.

1988: The federal government enacted the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act, which defines casino gaming rights on tribal lands.

1992: Foxwoods Casino officially opened on February 15 after the bingo hall expanded and added table games.

1993: Foxwoods added slot machines and opened The Fox Theater.

1995: Foxwoods added a poker room and a high-limit gaming area.

1996: A new, non-smoking casino was added.

1997: The Grand Pequot Tower hotel opened.

2008: The Fox Tower opened (originally named the MGM Grand at Foxwoods)

2015: The Tanger Outlet Mall opened with 85 stores.

2025: Foxwoods will open these additions this year:

The Bedford by Martha Stewart
This new restaurant will serve breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinners "inspired by Martha Stewart's country farmhouse". The restaurant opens this Fall.

Great Wolf Lodge
This 100,000-square-foot water park and with 575 hotel rooms opens this Spring.

Great Cedar Hotel Renovations
This multi-year renovation project will add contemporary designs and new furnishings to this hotel.

Foxwoods Poker Room
The poker room will be upgraded and relocated to The Fox Tower.

Foxwoods Plans Great Wolf Lodge at Mashantucket

June 17, 2024

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation plans to open a $300 million water park resort in 2025 next to Foxwoods Resort Casino. This family-friendly destination will be named Great Wolf Lodge at Mashantucket and include an indoor water park, a lodge, and a family entertainment center.

Construction began Feb. 7, 2024 and will be completed in early 2025.

The Great Wolf Resort will be built on a 13-acre site and include:

Indoor water park
This water park will be open year round and cover more than two acres (91,000-square-feet) with pools, slides, tubes, and water rivers.

Adventure Park
This family entertainment venue will offer interactive adventure games, arcades, bowling, ropes course, rock wall, and mini golf.

Great Wolf Lodge
This large eight-story hotel will cover nearly 15 acres and offer 549 guest rooms and suites.

Foxwoods opens newest casino today!

August 29, 2023

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation is holding the grand opening today of its new Pequot Woodlands Casino, a 50,000 square-foot casino located in the Grand Pequot Concourse. The location is nest to Gordon Ramsay's HELL'S KITCHEN restaurant, which opened on July 15.

Pequot Woodlands Casino features 430 new slot machines, 24 table games,a high-limit slots room, a 40-seat slot bar, and a public bar.

A statement released by Foxwoods said:

"We are proud to open our Pequot Woodlands Casino, one of the most significant property updates we have made in recent years. This incredible achievement speaks volumes about Foxwoods' growth and innovation over the past year, as we continue to focus on offering our guests world-class amenities. We are excited for our guests to experience this dynamic new gaming area, right in the heart of the resort."

Pequot Woodlands Casino is part of a Foxwoo0ds expansion project that is also adding a new bingo hall, an expo hall, and a Wahlburger restaurant, which opens at the end of this month. Foxwoods Resort Casino reopens June 1

May 29, 2020

Foxwoods will reopen on the same day as Mohegan Sun. Visitors must wear masks and have their temperatures scanned at entry. Poker rooms will remain temporarily closed. Buffets will be closed and restaurants will be takeout only.

Foxwoods announces new $85M casino expansion plan

September 14, 2022

Foxwoods announced plans last week to replace the Grand Ballroom in the Grand Pequot Tower with a new 50,000-sq-ft casino and a 13,000-sq-ft restaurant. The $85 million project will begin construction in November and open next summer. The plan is part of the year-long commemoration of Foxwood's 30th anniversary.

Foxwoods celebrates 30th anniversary, announces future expansions

New Foxwoods Casino planned for Puerto Rico

January 30, 2021

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation is making its first casino investment outside Connecticut. The tribe is investing $12.5 million to rebuild an historic casino inside the Fairmont El San Juan Hotel in Puerto Rico. The casino operated from the 1960s until 2017 when Hurricane Maria damaged the gaming area.

The Mashantucket Tribe is partnering with LionGrove, a hospitality company, to redevelop the casino and open to the public by the end of this year.

The new casino will be named Foxwoods El San Juan Casino. The casino will have 15,000 square feet with slot machines and table games. It will also have a sportsbook if Puerto Rico legalizes sports betting.

Foxwoods Casino Resort closes two hotels after occupancy rate drops

December 13, 2020

Foxwoods Casino Resort has experienced less demand for hotel rooms during the current COVID-19 pandemic, and has therefore announced the temporary closure of two hotels. This includes the Fox Tower with 825 rooms and the Two Trees Inn with 290 rooms.

Foxwoods Interim CEO and President Jason Guyot explained:

"Much like other industries, the continued spread of COVID-19 continues to impact our resort due to rising cases and new travel guidelines in place.

"As a result, we are making some temporary updates to our overall resort offerings and moving towards winter hours and operations. This includes reduced hotel capacity and gaming offerings across some areas of the resort."

Approximately 100 hotel employees have been furloughed.

Over 1,100 Foxwood hotel rooms will remain open for guests. These rooms are at Foxwoods' Grand Pequot Tower, Great Cedar Hotel, and the Villas.
