333 acres near Monticello is to purposed site for a new casino in the Catskills.
A Wisconsin Indian tribe, the Stockbridge-Munsee band of Mohicans, had been
making plans for the new gaming facility. Previously the deal was approved by
now former governor David Paterson.
The date where approval needs to be given to continue if fast approaching.
However, state newspapers are beginning to report that the project may be denied
by the Department of the Interior.
Saratoga Raceway and other video lottery terminal facilities strongly oppose the
Catskills casino plan. However, New York state Senator Chuck Schumer has been
trying to get the plan approved.
The proposed casino project will cost an estimated half billion to build. If
denied, the Stockbridge-Munsee plan on going to court.
