Racetrack and casino approved for Raton

RATON, NM - A $50 million racetrack and casino project at Raton has been approved by the New Mexico Racing Commission. The commission selected the proposal submitted by Horse Racing at Raton over two other applicants, Coronado Park Partners in Tucumcari and Pueblo of Pojoaque Development in Santa Fe.

Construction will begin as soon as permits are approved. The casino will be finished next year and the racetrack in 2010.

Thoroughbred and quarter horse racing
Opens summer of 2010
Operation June through Labor Day, 4 days per week, 9 races per day.
One-mile track and a 550-yard quarter horse track 7-furlong chute 1,500 horse stalls

CASINO
Opens in 2009
600 slot machines
Operation 16-18 hours daily
