Signature collection will begin on Friday from a group of people, called Michigan Is Yours, trying to get a new measure put on the November ballot. The measure is to allow for seven new casinos to be built in the state.

Michigan Is Yours is pushing for new casino to be developed in Grand Rapids, Romulus, Lansing, Saginaw, Benton Harbor, Detroit, and Mount Clemens. Members of the group believe that the new casinos will bring new jobs and tourism. Tax money made from the revenues will go the state education scholarships. The Pure Michigan tourism campaign will also benefit from the tax revenues.

This afternoon Mayor Alan Lambert gave a speech in Romulus. He made the speech in efforts to bring attention to the state’s unemployment and to start the campaign.

Previously the group was unable to collect enough signatures for the last election. They are hopeful to be more successful this time.
