Officials for the Mohegan Sun are planning on building a new casino in Palmer. Due to the success of the current Beacon Hill location, the officials believe the new location will do well also. The plan is for a smaller casino resort. This would be different from their larger Connecticut casino. To help make the plan a reality, a $500 million investment would be needed. The Mohegan Sun had a $2 billion investment price. If the Palmer casino is built, it would create 1,200 construction jobs. Plus an additional 2,000 full time jobs. The casino project is estimated to be completed in 3 to 5 years. Officials are hopeful that by the time the casino would be open, there will also be an economic turnaround.
