Casino Issue Will Not be on Primary Ballot

November 16, 2007

The Massachusetts Senate voted 33 to 5 to moved the presidential primary election to February 5th, but rejected an attempt by Senator Morrissey to amend the bill with a casino referendum.

Morrissey’s referendum would have allowed a non-binding vote to determine public support for the governor's plan to license resort casinos in Massachusetts prior to lawmakers debating the issue next year.

Senate President Therese Murray limited the debate on the primary bill and ruled the amendment unrelated and out of order.
