Naming Ceremony for Rivers Casino canceled for Des Plaines Residents
March 30, 2011
To generate interest in the new Des Plaines, Rivers Casino project, Mayor Marty
Moylan had planned to bus local residents to the casino site for the unveiling
of the casino name. However, it was advised that plans be changed due to safety
issues and timing issues.
The original plan was to have area residents ride in buses that were chartered
to go to the casino construction zone. The name unveiling would take place at
that time. The new casino is estimated to earn millions for the city’s treasury.
However, concern for people’s safety became an issue since they would be walking
in an active construction area.
The new Rivers Casino and the five story parking garage are both scheduled to
open in July
