Four new casinos are under construction in California and will be opening in the coming months.
The first new casino opens this December near Bakersfield, the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. Two more will open in 2026: Acorn Ridge Casino will be southeast of Sacramento, and North Fork Mono Casino will be off Highway 99 in Madera. In 2027 a fourth new casino, Caesars Republic will open in Sonoma County.
The remaining seven casino projects do not have scheduled opening dates because they are still in the approval process or in courts fighting legal challenges. These casinos include some major constuction projects like the $700 million Scotts Valley Casino Resort in Vallejo, abd the $600 million Shiloh Resort & Casino near Santa Rosa.
The following is a listing and status of the current new California casino projects.
Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tejon will be a $600-million casino, hotel and entertainment complex located 15 miles south of Bakersfield off Highway 99.
Tribe: Tejon Indian Tribe
Location: Mettler, Kern County, CA
Status: Grand opening December 2025
Features: Hard Rock Tejon will feature 2,500 slot machines, 48 table games, Hard Rock Live concert venue, and 13 restaurants and bars including a Hard Rock Cafe and an upscale steakhouse.

Acorn Ridge Casino will be a new boutique casino located about an hour's drive southeast of Sacramento
Tribe: Ione Band of Miwoks
Location: Plymouth, Amador County, CA
Status: Grand opening in Spring 2026
Features: This boutique casino will offer 349 slot machines, 10 table games, a restaurant and bar, a grab-and-go, and an outdoor entertainment venue.

North Fork Mono Casino will be a $400 million casino and hotel located on Highway 99 north of Madera, California.

Status: Grand opening in Summer 2026
Features: 2,000 slot machines, 40 table games, and a 200-room hotel.

Dry Creek Rancheria has partnered with Caesars Entertainment to replace the River Rock Casino in Geyserville with a new casino and hotel named Caesars Republic Sonoma County.
Tribe: Dry Creek Rancheria Band of Pomo Indians
Location: Geyserville, Sonoma, CA
Status: Grand opening in summer of 2027, replacing River Rock Casino
Features: 1,000 slot machines and 28 table games, a 100-room hotel with a pool and luxury spa, a steakhouse, upscale cafe, Asian restaurant, sports bar, and a wine bar with views of Alexander Valley.

The Scotts Valley Casino Resort is a $700 million proposal to build a 400,000-square-foot casino resort in Vallejo, California.
Tribe: Scotts Valley Band of Pomo Indians
Location: Vallejo, California near I-80 and Highway 37
Status: The federal government approved this casino on Jan. 10, 2025 and temporarily rescinded the decision on March 29, 2025. The Department of Interior is reassessing whether the 128-acre building site qualifies for gaming under the "restored lands" exception of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.
Features: The Vallejo casino will include a casino, restaurants, hotel and spa, and a family entertainment center with a movie theater, arcade, and a bowling alley
Information: Scotts Valley Casino Resort
The Koi Nation plans to build the $600-million Shiloh Resort & Casino on a 68-acre site northeast of Santa Rosa in Sonoma County, Californi.
Tribe: Koi Nation of Northern California
Location: The planned site is a vineyard between Highway 101 and the Shiloh Ranch Regional Park near Windsor in Sonoma County.
Status: This Koi Nation casino project in Sonoma County was suspended indefinitely by a federal court ruling on Sept. 3, 2025, which requires the U.S. Department of Interior to revisit its assessment process of the Shiloh Casino and redetermine a final decision.
Features: The total size of this casino resort will be 1.2 million square feet. It will include 2,500 slot machines, high-limit gaming, five restaurants, food hall, 2,800-seat event center, and a 400-room hotel.

Cloverdale Rancheria Resort Casino is a $320 million casino project in Sonoma County between the Russian River and U.S. Route 101. The tribe has been seeking federal approval for a casino since 2008.
Tribe: Cloverdale Rancheria of Pomo Indians
Location: Highway 101, Cloverdale, Sonoma County, California
Status: The Cloverdale Rancheria Resort & Casino needs local support from Sonoma County and a tribal-state gaming compact signed with Governor Gavin Newsom before the U.S. Department of the Interior gives final approval.
Features: The Cloverdale plan includes a 80,000 square-foot casino floor with 2,000 slot machines and 45 table games, restaurants, a 244-room hotel with spa and pool areas, a convention center, and a 1,200-seat entertainment center

The Timbisha Shoshone Tribe, whose reservation is in the Death Valley National Park, received federal and state approvals in 2024 to build a casino on a 20-acre site owned by the tribe in Inyokern, California.

Location: Highway 178 near Highway 395, Inyokern, Kern County, CA
Status: Federal approval granted July 1, 2024, and a tribal-state gaming compact has been signed with Gov. Newsom.

The Mechoopda Casino opened as a "temporary casino" on Feb. 15, 2024 with future plans to be replaced by a larger, permanent casino. The temporary casino was shut down indefinitely on Feb. 1, 2025.
Tribe: Mechoopda Indian Tribe of Chico Rancheria
Location: 15 miles south of Chico near Highways 99 and 149
Status: Future is uncertain. Project is under study by the tribe.
Features: 500 slot machines, 10 gaming tables, cafe and a bar

The Chemehuevi tribe has sought approval to build a casino near the Bastow Outlets several times over the past 20 years.
Tribe: Chemehuevi Indian Tribe of the Chemehuevi Reservation
Location: The tribe owns 40 acres of land along Lenwood Drive near Barstow Outlets
Status: Stalled. Needs federal land approval.

The Los Coyote and Big Lagoon tribes signed a gaming compact with former-Governor Schwarzenegger in 2005 to jointly build a $160 million casino resort in Bartow. Each tribe Each tribe would operate its own casino within the complex.
