Hard Rock Metropolitan Park Advances With Garage Foundation Work in Queens

QUEENS, N.Y. - Construction crews have started test piling for a planned parking garage at Hard Rock Metropolitan Park, providing the clearest sign yet that foundation work is advancing at the proposed $8 billion Queens casino resort. The milestone comes as developers continue site preparation and infrastructure work across the project site surrounding Citi Field.

The development team has expanded construction activity across the approximately 50-acre property, where crews have been clearing pavement, removing curbs, fencing work zones, identifying underground utilities and staging heavy equipment in preparation for larger phases of construction.

Test piling for one of the project's planned parking structures represents an important step beyond basic site preparation and provides one of the first visible signs of foundation-related construction activity on the site. While piling work tied to the main casino structure has not yet begun, supporting infrastructure construction continues to move forward.

Recently released project documents offer additional details about the planned resort complex. Current plans call for a 1,000-room Hard Rock hotel featuring 393 suites, a 286,208-square-foot casino floor, 5,000 slot machines, 375 table games and an 18,381-square-foot sportsbook and bar.

The development is also expected to include three multi-level parking garages and a covered pedestrian connection to the Mets-Willets Point transit station. Developers have said the transportation improvements are intended to support year-round visitation while improving access to the surrounding entertainment district.

Beyond the casino and hotel, project plans continue to include 25 acres of publicly accessible park space, along with broader infrastructure improvements and community-benefit commitments associated with the redevelopment effort.

Although construction activity has become increasingly visible in recent months, the project remains behind timelines previously submitted to New York regulators. Project representatives have nevertheless maintained that Hard Rock Metropolitan Park remains on track for a 2030 opening.

The next major milestone for the development will be the start of foundation work for the main casino complex, signaling the transition from site preparation to vertical construction on one of New York City's most closely watched casino projects.
