In a Dec. 22 meeting the Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB) granted final regulatory approval of the $1.08 billion purchase of the Mirage by Hard Rock International. The real estate deal officially closed a few days later.

Hard Rock, owned by the Seminole Tribe of Florida, is now running the daily operation of the Mirage, which was formerly owned by MGM Resorts. The Mirage operation will continue through 2023 as Hard Rock prepares for 2024-2025 construction to reshape and rebrand the property.
Hard Rock Conversion Timeline There is no announced timeline for Hard Rock to transform the Mirage. However, Hard Rock CEO Jim Allen shared some general estimates of the schedule:
Now: Hard Rock's Unity rewards program has already replaced MGM Rewards.
Summer 2023: All architectural drawings will be completed next summer.
Fall 2023: Hard Rock will seek construction bids when the drawings are ready. Construction should begin two to three months afterwards.
2024-2025: Construction is expected to take 26-30 months. The Mirage is expected to stay open during construction.
2025-2026: Hard Rock rebranding of the Mirage name is expected in 2025. The grand opening of the new Hard Rock Las Vegas will likely be in 2026.
Hard Rock executives released a preliminary Master Plan to transition The Mirage into the new Hard Rock Las Vegas destination resort. The plans were presented Wednesday to the Nevada Gaming Control Board.

Hard Rock will continue to operate The Mirage through 2023 while developing the final plans for their new casino. In 2024 The Mirage will be shut down for an extensive renovation and expansion project lasting 26-30 months. The finished Hard Rock Las Vegas will open in late 2025.
Hard Rock Las Vegas to open guitar-shaped hotel in 2025

Hard Rock International announced it will open a guitar-shaped hotel on the Strip in Las Vegas in 2025. The hotel will replace the famous volcano area in front of the Mirage Casino as part of the plans to rebrand and renovate The Mirage property. Hard Rock purchased The Mirage last December along with the right to continue the Mirage name for up to three years.
The opening date for the hotel was included in a press release this week regarding a guest satisfaction study for 2022. Near the bottom the press release states: "Looking ahead, Hard Rock also recently announced property expansion in Las Vegas, set to open in 2025, and Athens in 2026."
There was no date mentioned for the start of the hotel construction. The renovation of the casino is also expected be completed by 2025. No details about the casino have been released. A temporary closure of the casino might be necessary.
Hard Rock Las Vegas will say goodbye to Mirage volcano
Hard Rock International will remove the famous volcano in front of the Mirage Casino as part of the remodeling project to rebrand the casino and add a guitar-shaped hotel along the Strip. Removal of the volcano was disclosed in a conversation with Hard Rock International Chief Executive Officer Jim Allen.
Under the terms of the purchasing contract with MGM Resorts International, Hard Rock is licensing The Mirage name and brand for up to three years as it transitions the property into a world-class Hard Rock destination.
"MGM will keep The Mirage name and brand, licensing it to Hard Rock for a few years as they finalize plans to rebrand the property."
