Caesars Virginia broke ground in Danville, Virginia on August 12, 2022. Construction will be completed within two years, and the grand opening is expected in late 2024. A temporary casino will open May 15, 2023 and operate until the opening of the permanent Caesars Virginia.

When Caesars Virginia opens in 2024 it will include a casino, hotel and entertainment center. The casino will feature 1,300 slot machines, 85 table games, a poker room and a sportsbook. The hotel will have 320 guest rooms with meeting rooms and a conference center. The entertainment center will have a 2,500-seat capacity.

Caesars Virginia opened a temporary casino, named Danville Casino, on May 15, 2023 to operate until the opening of its permanent casino in late 2024. Danville Casino is located on the corner of Bishop and Main in Danville.

Danville Casino is a 40,000-square-foot tent structure is a temporary casino with a 24/7 quick-serve restaurant. The casino location is adjacent to the construction site of the future Caesars Virginia.

The Danville partnership between Caesars Entertainment and Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) began in 2021. The EBCI leader said at the time:

"(the partnership is) a vital opportunity for our nation and our people. We are excited to be expanding our longstanding and successful partnership with Caesars Entertainment to develop a first-class resort that will be defined by luxury and service that Caesars' guests have known and come to expect."

Prior to the Danville casino partnership, Caesars and the EBCI have shared a 27-year relationship with other casinos. Their first casino was Harrah's Cherokee Casino Resort, which opened in 1997 in Cherokee, North Carolina. Their second casino was Harrah's Cherokee Valley River Casino, which opened in 2015 in Murphy, North Carolina. In 2018 the EBCI partnered with Caesars at the Caesars Southern Indiana inon the Ohio River across from Louisville, KY.

The tribe's parnership earnings pay for Cherokee health services and hospitals, education and schools, and public safety, and other community services.

Caesars Virginia reduces planned hotel size

February 8, 2024

Construction of Caesars casino and hotel in Danville, Virginia will be completed late this year. Due to higher costs, Danville City Manager Ken Larking says the size of the hotel has been reduced from the original plan of 500 rooms down to 320 rooms.

The development agreement signed Caesars and Danville specifies a minimum of 300 rooms, so the revised plan is still within the terms of the deal.

"... we've heard is that construction costs for them have skyrocketed quite a bit. They might be tweaking some programs. They're focusing on other things a little bit more but in their estimates, it was best to reduce the number of rooms and save costs so that funding could go to some other aspect of the project."

Caesars Virginia celebrates hotel construction milestone

January 21, 2024

Construction of Caesars Virginia reached a major milestone this week as the $675 million casino resort project in Danville continued on schedule for a grand opening late this year. The construction milestone was the completion of the steel framing of the hotel.

The event was celebrated Jan. 18th with a topping-off ceremony. An American flag and a pine tree were hoisted to the top of the hotel structure and placed next to an image of Julius Caesar.

Construction of the permanent Caesars Virginia began in August 2022. The 12-story hotel structure of steel and concrete has been completed, and windows are being installed on the first six floors. Similarly, the casino floor is poured and the casino's steel structure is completed.

Danville's Caesars Virginia Casino on-schedule to open in late 2024

Construction of the permanent Caesars Virginia casino in Danville has steadily progressed on schedule since its groundbreaking back in August 2022. This week Chris Albrecht, Caesars Virginia General Manager, confirmed the casino remains on track for opening in late 2024.

The 90,000-square-foot casino floor is poured and finished.

Hotel Construction Status - Dec. 2023
The 12-story hotel structure and flooring are completed to the 11th floor.

Caesars Virginia will feature 1,300 slot machines, 85 table games, a WSOP Poker Room, and a Caesars Sportsbook, There will be seven restaurants, a 2,300-seat entertainment center, and a four-star hotel with 320 rooms and conference space.

Construction of Caesars Virginia is currently on-schedule for completion in late 2024 according to its general manager, Chris Albrecht, who gave a project update this week to the Danville Register & Bee.

CONSTRUCTION STATUS
Caesars Virginia's construction has been underway since August 2022. The property's underground infrastructures are finished. The casino foundation and basement are poured, as well as the loading dock and back-end areas. Some of the surface parking lots are finished. Construction of thew hotel tower is underway on the third floor. Completion is expected in late 2024.

RESTAURANTS
Albrecht would not disclose which restaurants are coming to Caesars Virginia. He said several are under consideration and will be announced later.

STAFFING
The temporary Danville Casino currently employs more than 400 workers. All will move over to the Caesars Virginia casino when it opens. Additional hiring for Caesars Virginia will begin in mid-2024. The total number of employees needed by Caesars Virginia is estimated to be 1,300.

TEMP CASINO
The temporary Danville Casino is renting its location and will shut down when Caesars Virginia opens. The casino has operated since May 15 and has 800 slot machines, 33 table games, 36 electronic table games and 12 sports-betting kiosks. Much of this equipment will be moved to the new casino.

PERMANENT CASINO
The $650 million Caesars Virginia casino will have 1,300 slot machines, 85 table games, 24 electronic table games, WSOP Poker Room, and a Caesars Sportsbook

Danville Casino generates $12M in 1st two weeks

June 24, 2023

Within two weeks of opening, Caesar's temporary casino in Danville generated $11.92 million in gaming revenue. Slot machines earned $10.2 million of the total, and table games brought in $1.7 million.

So far, the other two Virginia casinos have both also seen immediate success after opening. Rivers Casino in Portsmouth earned $20.6 million last month, and Hard Rock Bristol brought in $12.9 million.

Danville Casino Opens May 15

Caesars Virginia casino will bring millions in new revenue to Danville

April 3, 2023

The City of Danville, Virginia will soon receive new revenue from Caesars Virginia when its temporary casino opens in July. Danville expects the income to be $12.1M for the next fiscal year and $39M when the full casino opens in 2024.

"I'm excited about the fact that we are going, as a community we have -- we are going to use this opportunity to help better the lives of the people who live in Danville."

The new city budget proposes the following allocation of the funds:

• $2.8M to economic development initiatives
• $2.5 million to Danville Public Schools
• $840,000 to the police department headquarters
• $800,000 for blight removal
• $467,000 for gang prevention programming

Caesars Virginia: Danville Casino Construction Update - March 2023

The temporary casino for Caesars Virginia in Danville remains on schedule for opening this summer. The casino is a large, white tent structure that can be seen on West Main Street at the former Dan River Mills site. A parking garage can also be seen. The temporary casino is expected to operate until late 2024 when the permanent Caesars Virginia opens.

Caesars Virginia will hire about 450 employees full and part time workers for the temporary casino. Several job fairs are scheduled this month. The company is offering jobs in security, marketing, accounting, executive assistants and a variety of other opportunities. Last month Caesars hired 100 table game dealers, who will begin a 12-week training course starting this month.

Caesars Virginia has begun construction of a steel-framed building for a temporary casino on the former Dan River Schoolfield site on West Main Street. The temporary casino is next to the building site for Caesars' permanent casino. The large structure can be seen from Bishop Road in Danville.

"My understanding is that they are working on it. It's pretty obvious if you go out there. There's a structure being built. So, they are proceeding with the plan."

Caesars Virginia Plans Temporary Casino in Mid-2023

November 8, 2022

Caesars plans to build a temporary casino in Danville, Virginia at the future site of Caesars Virginia. The site was home to the former Dan River textile mill. Caesars plans to open the temporary casino in mid-2023 and operate it during construction of the permanent Caesars Virginia, which is scheduled to open in late 2024.

There has been no formal announcement of the Danville temporary casino. However, the plan was confirmed three times last week in statements by corporate officisls during a quarterly earnings call with investors. The most notable comments were:

"We've got temporary casinos in Columbus, Nebraska, Danville, Virginia, that will hit next year."

- Thomas Reeg, Caesars Ent CEO

"We expect to open temporary casinos in both Danville, Virginia, and Columbus, Nebraska, by mid-year '23."

- Anthony Carano, Caesars President/COO

A day later a Danville oity official confirmed a plan and added some insight.

"The Caesars team told me they were working with the Virginia Lottery to have a temporary casino at the [Schoolfield] site."

No other information about the plan was mentioned. A formal announcement is expected sometime soon following a greenlight from the Virginia Lottery.

Eastern Band of Cherokee partners with Caesars Virginia

The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) has joined with Caesars Entertainment to build the new $675 million Caesars Virginia in Danville, VA. The two partners have a 20-year relationship in the operation of the two Cherokee casinos in North Carolina. EBCI and Caesars will share ownership of the Danville casino. Caesars will manage the operation.

Caesars Virginia will feature a casino with 1,300 slots, 85 live table games, 24 electronic table games, a World Series of Poker room and a Caesars Sportsbook. The hotel will offer 320 guest rooms and suites, a spa, pool, and 50,000 square-foot convention center. There will also be multiple restaurants and bars, and a live entertainment theater with 2,500 seats.

The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians released this statement:

Danville casino delays opening to 2024

May 9, 2022

The late 2023 opening date announced previously by Caesars Entertainment has become unrealistic due to supply chain delays of construction materials and industry-wide labor shortages. In a meeting with the Danville City Council last week, a Caesars spokesman said the revised opening date is now in 2024.

The corporate spokesman, Robert Livingston, said "We have seen supply chain issues and other market forces that continue to wreak havoc." The materials shortages are compounded by labor shortages.

Construction teams are currently removing vast amounts of concrete from the building site.

Caesars Virginia Casino begins construction | Update

October 1, 2021

Construction crews began site preparation work for the Caesars Virginia Casino last week at the former Dan River Inc. factory property. The work puts the construction schedule about two months ahead of plans for the $675 million Danville casino resort. Site work will continue into 2022 in preparation for the casino foundation which will be laid sometime in the first half of 2022.

At the same time demolition crews have also begun work at the site to dismantle and remove the Dan River factory buildings. Demolition and removal will run into second quarter of 2022. The large Dan River finishing building is 617,000 square feet and will be removed near the end of the demolition project. The three smokestacks will be preserved as a feature of the resort.

Construction is expected to last two years with the grand opening of Caesars Virginia Casino planned for late 2023.

This week Caesars Virginia announced updates to its building plan in Danville and released new project renderings. The original $400 million project has now been expanded to $675 million for a larger hotel and convention space.

The hotel at Caesars Virginia will now be 320 guest rooms instead of the previously planned 300 rooms. The meeting and convention space will be expanded to 50,000 square feet.

The casino at Caesars Virginia will feature 1,300 slot machines, 75 table games, a World Series of Poker-branded live poker room and a sportsbook. There will also be an entertainment venue with seating for 2,500.

The groundbreaking for Caesars Virginia will be in December 2021 and the grand openiing will be in late 2023.

2020 Election: Danville voters approve Caesars Virginia casino plan

The proposed $400M Caesars Virginia was approved by Danville voters this week. The project includes a casino, a 2,500-seat entertainment venue and a 300-room hotel.

Danville City Council Votes Supports for Casino Plan

Danville City Council members voted unanimously today in favor of supporting a bill in the state legislature that would allow a casino in Danville. If passed and signed by the governor, the issue would be decided by Danville voters in this November's election.
