Walker's Bluff Casino Resort

Walker's Bluff vineyard began in 2008 as an upscale steak & seafood restaurant with entertainment, a wine cave and general store.

In June 2019 Illinois enacted legislation to greatly expand gambling in the state for the purpose of economic growth. Within the legislation was the authorization to build new casinos in six different cities. One of those new casinos was designated for Walker's Bluff in Carterville, Illinois.

On Oct 18, 2019 the Williamson County Board approved the Walker's Bluff casino plan for submission to the Illinois Gaming Board. The gaming board will make the final decision on issuance of a casino license.

If the casino is approved, Walker's Bluff will transform into a new destination resort named 'The Resort at Walker's Bluff'.

The Illinois Gaming Board granted the Walker's Bluff project a "preliminary suitability" status in June 2021, which is a preliminary license to proceed. See story

Walker's Bluff is a new 190,000-square-foot resort in Williamson County, Illinois. The casino features 650 slot machines and 14 table games. There are three restaurants: Ruthie's Steak and Seafood, Draft Day Sports Lounge, and a family dining restaurant. There is also an event center and a show lounge for local and regional entertainers.

The hotel, convention center and other resort amenities will open soon. The hotel will feature 113 guest rooms and suites, a pool, spa and fitness room. Retail space is available for boutique shops.

Walker's Bluff Casino & Resort: Construction Update - March 2023

Walker's Bluff Casino & Resort is preparing to open its doors this spring. As the exterior of the building nears the final stages of construction, and the interior work and installations proceed on schedule, Walker's Bluff Casino is seeking to hire 400 employees for opening day.

WSIL News 3 talked with Craig Levesque, General Manager, about the employment opportunities at Walker's Bluff Casino.

The first hiring priority for Walker's Bluff Casino is casino dealers. Training classes are held every Monday 12pm-4pm for qualified candidates. Security and customer service positions are the other priorities.

WFCN reports the current construction work includes completion of the hotel framing, completion of the water tower, and start of the roadways and parking lot grading.

When finished, Walker's Bluff Casino Resort will feature a casino, hotel, convention and entertainment center, restaurants and an indoor-outdoor water park. The opening will be sometime in 2023. An approximate date has not been announced.

Gov. J.B. Pritzker was in Carterville this week to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Walker's Bluff Casino Resort. The casino will feature 650 slot machines, 20 table games and a sports book. The resort will feature a 116-room hotel with pool and spa, a convention and entertainment center, several restaurants, and an indoor-outdoor water park.

Gov. Pritzker expressed his enthusiasm for the Walker's Bluff Casino project:

Walker's Bluff Casino Resort granted 'preliminary license'

June 13, 2021

Walker's Bluff owner Cynde Bunch announced this week, "We were granted a 'preliminary license to proceed'! Today we celebrate. Tomorrow at daylight we ride through a new set of hoops."

The Illinois Gaming Board has given the Walker Bluff casino project a "preliminary suitability" status, which is effectively a green light to start construction on the casino resort. The board action is not a final license but rather a major step in the long licensing process.
