The Northern California Karuk Tribe opened the new Rain Rock Casino on April 17, 2018. It is located in the southeast corner of Yreka on a 60-acre site immediately east of Interstate 5 off exit 773.
In December 2013 the Karuk Tribe signed a gaming compact with Gov. Brown, which authorizes up to a maximum of 1,500 slot machines at this casino. The State Assembly ratified the compact on August 19, 2014. There are also signed agreements with the city of Yreka and the California Department of Transportation.
The Rain Rock Casino project was planned in 2 phases. Phase 1 is finished and open for visitors. Phase 2 will add 20,000 square feet of gaming space (56,000 total), 300 additional slot machines, 8 additional table games, an 80-room, 46,000 sq-ft hotel and 500 additional parking spaces.
