The Barona Band of Mission Indians is a federally recognized tribe located in the foothills of eastern San DiegoCounty. The tribe operates a sovereign government with programs supporting cultural preservation, education,environmental protection, and community health. Barona Resort & Casino is the tribe's primary economic enterpriseand supports government services and community programs.
The tribe has approximately 500 enrolled members. Membership is based on lineal descent and governed by thetribe's enrollment policies.
The Barona people are primarily descendants of the Kumeyaay Nation. After displacement during the early 20thcentury, the tribe settled on the Barona Reservation in 1932. Over time, the tribe developed a strong governmentand economic enterprises while preserving cultural traditions and community identity.
