Alabama-Coushatta Casino Resort

The Alabama-Coushatta Tribe casino will offer Class II gaming, which is defined as gambling played exclusively against other players and not the house. This includes bingo-style slot machines, bingo, poker, and other "non-banked" card games.

The casino will include a hotel, restaurants, and an entertainment venue. Further details have not been announced but are expected in the coming months.

Status

The Alabama-Coushatta Tribe is currently finalizing the design and development plans to start construction.

The new casino resort has federal approval from the U.S. Supreme Court. In June 2023 the court ruled that Texas tribes are allowed to operate Class II gaming on their reservations without state approval. Class II gaming is defined as casino games played against other players rather than the "house". Games include bingo-style slot machines where jackpots are paid from other player bets.

No specific information has yet been released. We do not know the name of the casino, the features, and the timeline for construction.

Location

The Alabama-Coushatta casino resort will be located in Southeast Texas about an hour and a half north of Houston. This is reservation land located 17 miles east of Livingston in Polk County, Texas on Hwy 190.

Alabama-Coushatta Tribe

The Alabama-Coushatta Tribe currently owns the Naskila Casino, which features 800 slot machines, and the Ischoopa Travel Center & Casino, which was renovated and reopened in December 2024 with 81 slot machine, a convenience store, and fuel station.

The Alabama-Coushatta Tribe has a history in Texas before 1700. Its reservation is the oldest in the state and consists of 10,200 acres located in the Big Thicket of Deep East Texas.

There are three existing tribal casinos in Texas: The Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino operated by the Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas in Eagle Pass, Maverick County, TX, the Speaking Rock Casino operated by the Tigua Indians of the Ysleta del Sur Pueblo in El Paso and the Naskila Casino operated by the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas in Livingston, Polk County, TX.

The Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas plans to built a casino resort north of Houston in Polk County. Details of the project are being finalized and an opening date has not been announced. In a press release last April the Tribe annouced the project will be a "casino resort" to be built on reservation land east of Livingston.

"We are incredibly proud to embark on this new chapter. This new casino resort will not only provide significant economic benefits for those living and working in the region, but it will also become a vibrant destination for visitors."

The Tribe has hired FFKR Architects to design and develop the plans for the new casino resort. FFKR is a nationally-acclaimed company with 170 architects, designers, and support technicians.

As the casino design develops, its features and artist renderings will be posted on this page.

The new casino will be the fourth in Texas. The other three are the Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino in Eagle Pass, the Naskila Casino in Livingston, and Speaking Rock Casino in El Paso. All of these casinos operate under federal authority and are regulated by the National Indian Gaming Commission INIGC).

The Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas plan to build a new casino resort about an hour and a half north of Houston in Polk County. The casino will be authorized by the federal government and operate on tribal land under the authority of the Indian Regulatory Act.

During the announcement on Monday, the Alabama-Coushatta Tribal Chairman said:

Plans are being finalized and are expected to include a "state-of-the-art" casino floor with Class II gaming, a hotel, multiple dining options, and an entertainment venue. Further details are pending and expected to be announced over the coming months.

Texas currently has only three casinos. All three are indian gaming casinos on reservation land. The Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas owns and operates the Naskila Casino in Livingston, Texas. The other two Texas casinos are the Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino in Eagle Pass and Speaking Rock Casino in El Paso.

Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas announces plans for new casino resort on Reservation

The Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas announced today exciting plans to build a brand-new casino resort on its Tribal lands.

"We are incredibly excited to embark on this new chapter," said Ricky Sylestine, Tribal Council Chairman. "This new casino resort will not only provide significant economic benefits for those living and working in the region, but it will also become a vibrant destination for visitors."

While specific details are still being finalized, the new resort may offer a variety of amenities including: a state-of-the-art casino floor, hotel accommodations, and diverse dining and entertainment options.

The Tribe has engaged the architectural firm FFK.R to design the new resort. FFKR is known for its innovative and creative designs. The Tribe is confident the firm will create a truly exceptional destination.

In addition to the new casino resort, the Tribe is planning an extensive remodel to its existing Ischoopa/One Stop Convenience Store and Truck Stop. The remodel will include adding electronic bingo machines.

The Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas will be releasing news related to the new resort and any additional developments in the coming months.
