Golden Mesa Casino is undergoing a $70 million expansion project to double the size of the casino and add a 100-room hotel is currently under construction. The opening date will be in Summer 2025.

The casino is located two miles southwest of Guymon in the Oklahoma panhandle. It officially opened Sept 14, 2019 after years of struggle by the Shawnee Tribe.

Golden Mesa Casino is owned by the Shawnee Tribe, which has partnered with the Chickasaw Nation to manage the operation.

Golden Mesa Casino

The Golden Mesa Casino officially opened September 12, 2019. The casino is located two miles southwest of Guymon in the Oklahoma panhandle.

In 2017 the Shawnee Tribe has announced plans to build this casino, the first casino in the Panhandle. The casino site was 107 acres of off-reservation land near Guymon, Oklahoma.

After a lengthy review process, the Shawnee Tribe was granted final approval to build the casino. The U.S. Secretary of the Interior signed off on February 2, 2017 followed by Gov. Fallin's approval on February 7, 2017.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held in May 2018 and construction was completed in September 2019. Also see Grand Opening

The $70 million expansion project at Golden Mesa Casino began construction a year ago on Sept. 22, 2023, and this week the project celebrated a major milestone to mark the completion on the steel framework.

The event is called "topping out" by the industry. A topping out ceremony was held on Sept. 13th with officials of the casino, the Shawnee Tribe, the Chickasaw Nation, and major contractors.

"We want to extend our thanks and gratitude to everybody who's been a part of this project and it's been exciting. It's an exciting day for us because it's momentous. This is the opportunity for us to grow not only as a tribe, but as a community, and for Golden Mesa to be a shining star of entertainment for this whole area of the Panhandle and its surrounding communities."

Following the speeches, the attendees each signed the final beam for good fortune before it was hoisted into place. The expansion project has passed the midway point and is on schedule for completion next summer.

Golden Mesa Casino Expansion | July 2024 Update

July 19, 2024

Several weather delays at Golden Mesa Casino have pushed the expected completion date for the $70 million expansion project from Spring to Summer 2025. Construction is currently on-schedule for next summer, according to The Shawnee Tribe website.

The Golden Mesa Casino expansion project will double the size of the casino, add a new restaurant, add an RV Park later this year, and build a 100-room hotel tower.

PROJECT STATUS - JULY 2024
This is a list of new construction tasks that have been completed or are underway:

• All foundation work is completed.

• The structural framing on the hotel tower is underway.

• The first floor of the hotel is framed and decked.

• Work is underway on exterior walls, sheathing, and roofing.

• The new high-limit gaming area is in-design.

The Golden Mesa Casino expansion will employ 400-500 construction workers over the course of the project.

Golden Mesa Casino begins $70 million expansion

A groundbreaking ceremony was held at the Golden Mesa Casino yesterday to launch a $70 million construction project that will expand the casino and add an upscale, 100-room hotel.

The 40,000-square-foot casino will double the size of its gaming space and add 400 new electronic games. The expansion will also include a full-service restaurant, an RV park, and an upscale hotel. The hotel will have 100 guest rooms.

No further information has been release, and no completion date has been announced.

Golden Mesa Casino is owned by the Shawnee Tribe, which has partnered with Global Gaming Solutions, a gaming company of the Chickasaw Nation.

Golden Mesa Casino opens doors with ribbon cutting

September 16, 2019

The new Golden Mesa Casino officially opened September 12, 2019.

The grand opening was attended by public officials, dignitaries and tribal leaders including Shawnee Chief Ron Sparkman, Shawnee Chief-Elect Ben Barnes and Chickasaw Nation Governor Bill Anoatubby.

Shawnee Chief Ron Sparkman said:

"Today marks an historic day for Guymon, the entire Oklahoma Panhandle and the Shawnee Tribe. The opening of Golden Mesa Casino positions this region as an emerging entertainment and tourism destination as we expect this casino entertainment center to bring visitors from Texas, Kansas, Colorado and New Mexico."

Golden Mesa Casino is located in the Oklahoma panhandle, two miles southwest of Guymon. It is a 40,000-square-foot casino with 600 gaming machines.

Golden Mesa Casino will open Sept 12

August 24, 2019

The Shawnee Tribe, in partnership with the Chickasaw Nation, has completed the construction of its $25 million casino in Guymoon, OK. The grand opening is scheduled for Sept 12. A celebration will include brief speeches and a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The Golden Mesa Casino has a 20,206 square-foot gaming floor with 600 electronic gaming machines and 6 table games. The total building size is 42,000 square feet and includes the casino gaming floor, a diner, retail space and tribal offices.

The Shawnee Tribe tribal regained federal recognition in 2000 and later purchased 107-acres of off-reservation land as a casino site subject to federal approval. The land is located 2 miles soutwest of Guymon.

The U.S. Interior Department gave approval for the casino on February 2, 2017, which was followed soon afterwards with state approval on February 7, 2017.

Approval has been given to put 102.98 acres into trust so that the Shawnee Tribe can build a future casino.

The approval came on Friday. The land is in the Oklahoma Panhandle near the city of Guymon.

It is estimated that the casino will generate $30 million a year for the tribe. 200 jobs will also be created for the area.

The casino will be 42,000 square feet. The space will fit a casino gaming floor of 20,206 square feet, retail area, a restaurant, and offices for the Shawnee Tribe Gaming Commission.
