New photos and a new video show the current progress of construction on the Son of Star Casino in White Shied, ND. Members of the Three Affiliated Tribes Business Council met with the architect and toured the new casino on Oct. 10th.

Son of Star Casino is scheduled to open in 2026. The tentative date will be in April. The casino is located in White Shield just south of the tribe's powwow grounds. The 37,000-square-foot casino will feature 230 slot machines, 6 table games, a poker room, sportsbook, steakhouse, coffee shop, gift shop and campground. Plans called for Future expansion may include a convenience store, hotel and event center.

The exterior of the Son of Star Casino building appears to be near completion as shown in the photo. The walkway to the entrance was recntly poured. The outside pavement, parking lots and landscaping remain unfinished.

Son of Star Casino will be the second casino owned by the MHA Nation (Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara), AKA Three Affiliated Tribes of the Fort Berthold Reservation. The nation also owns the 4 Bears Casino and Lodge in New Town, ND, and 23 acres of vacant land on the Las Vegas Strip across from Luxor, where it plans to someday build a casino, hotel, convention center, theater, and perhaps a 15,000-20,000 seat sports center ( MHA Nation | Las Vegas Casino Project).

The White Shield casino will be named for Chief Son of Star, an Arikara leader who lived in the early 1800s.
"We came up with the (casino) name 'Son of Star,' because a lot of us are related to Son of Star. We come down from that lineage. So, we just thought we'd show some homage, I guess, to show respect for our culture and families.

When the casino opens next year, it will feature 230 slot machines, 6 table games, a poker room and a sportsbook. The Son of Star Casino will also have a steakhouse, a cafe, a gift shop and a campground. Future additions may include an 80-room hotel, an event ccenter and a convenience store.

The MHA Nation celebrated a ground blessing ceremony Wednesday to begin construction of the new Son Of Star Casino in White Shield, ND. The casino will open in 2026.
The architectural design of the Son of Star Casino displays the history and cultural of the MHA Nation using artwork, artifacts, and natural elements. The casino will be divided into quadrants representing the four elements of fire, water, earth, and wind.
