Pechanga Resort Casino is a major tribal casino and destination resort operated by the Pechanga Band of Indians in Temecula, California. The resort features approximately 200,000 square feet of gaming space, with its existing compact authorizing as many as 5,500 slot machines at up to two gaming facilities.
A 2026 amendment to the tribe's gaming compact with California authorizes Pechanga to operate an additional 1,000 gaming machines and extends the compact by approximately 20 years. The agreement also increases Pechanga's financial commitments to its Local Community Credit Fund.
The authorization creates the potential for Pechanga's gaming operation to grow to as many as 6,500 machines. The compact does not establish an installation schedule for the additional machines.
Beyond gaming, Pechanga is a full-service destination resort with approximately 1,100 hotel rooms, dining, entertainment and resort amenities.
Pechanga Casino Expansion: Up to 1,000 Additional Gaming Machines
The Pechanga Band of Indians gained authority to substantially expand its gaming operation under a 2026 amendment to its tribal-state gaming compact with California.
The amended compact permits the tribe to operate 1,000 additional gaming machines beyond the 5,500 authorized under its 2016 agreement. The amendment also provides an approximately 20-year extension of the compact in exchange for Pechanga agreeing not to challenge its revenue terms during the life of the agreement.
The agreement does not specify when the additional machines will be installed.
Pechanga's $300 Million Resort Expansion
The latest gaming authorization follows one of the largest expansions in Pechanga Resort Casino's history.
The Pechanga Band of Luiseno Indians celebrated the grand opening of a $300 million resort expansion in March 2018. The project doubled the size of the resort and added 568 hotel rooms and suites, bringing the resort to more than 1,000 rooms.
The expansion also added:
- 568 hotel rooms and suites
- The Cove, a 4.5-acre pool complex
- Two additional restaurants
- A two-level luxury spa with fitness and yoga facilities
- 68,000 square feet of additional meeting and event space
- The 40,000-square-foot Pechanga Summit event venue
Following the expansion, the property reported a 200,000-square-foot casino, approximately 1,090 hotel rooms and 100,000 square feet of indoor meeting, event and convention space.
