Twin Pine Casino and Hotel

Twin Pine Casino & Hotel is a wine-themed hotel and casino located just north of Napa Valley on Highway 29 and at the southern edge of the Lake County wine region. Wine barrels and grape clusters decorate this casino and hotel and wine events are celebrated throughout the year. There are 35 wineries nearby.

Twin Pine Casino opened in 1994 inside 8 modular trailers. There was only 104 slot machines and a few blackjack tables at that time. The casino expanded over the years, and in early 2009, it reopened after a major expansion that added a larger casino and a 3-story hotel.

Twin Pine Casino: Tribe signs new California gaming compact

April 10, 2023

California Gov. Gavin Newsom has signed a new, 25-year tribal gaming compact with the Middletown Rancheria of Pomo Indians, owners of the Twin Pine Casino located north of Napa Valley. The new agreement allows Middletown Rancheria to operate two casinos on its reservation with 1,200 slot machines (combined total), Class III table games (blackjack, baccarat, craps, and roulette) and off-track wagering.

Two California tribal gaming compacts are rejected by U.S. Interior Department (again)

August 4, 2022

The U.S. Department of Interior rejected two tribal gaming compacts last week that were signed in March by Gov. Newsom. One compact was signed with the Middletown Rancheria of Pomo Indians, which own the Twin Pine Casino and Hotel in Middletown, and the other was signed with Santa Rosa Rancheria, which owns Tachi Palace Hotel & Casino in Lemoore.

Both compacts were rejected by the federal government for imposing State regulations on the tribes in violation of the U.S. Indian Gaming Regulatory Act. U.S. Assistant Secretary of Indian Affairs Bryan Newland identified these problems in late 2021 and stated last week that neither tribe had revised their compacts to satisfactorily resolve the issues.

Both tribes were surprised and disappointed with the federal decision.

Gov. Newsom objected saying "The Department chose to disregard the interests of the tribes."

The compacts would have authorized the two tribes to operate Class III games and raise the number of slot machines and table games at their casinos. The Middletown Rancheria would increase its authorized number of slot machines at Twin Pine Casino from 600 to 1,200 and build a second casino in the future. Santa Rosa Rancheria would be allowed to increase the number of slot machines to 3,000 at Tachi Palace Casino and a future second casino.
