On Thursday a new work of art was unveiled at Harrah's Resort Southern California. It is a statue of a Luiseno Indian woman made of bronze called "Milky Way Woman". The artwork on display is part of a program that showcases fine art at the casino.
Doug Hyde is a Native American artist that made the bronze piece. The statue is of a woman dressed in traditional clothing and holding baskets in the stars. The artist also has art pieces at Washington's National Museum of the American Indian.
It is symbolic to the ancestors of the tribe and a tribute to the rich history of their people.
