Donation applications from nonprofits in Arizona are being accepted by Gila River Hotels & Casinos. The casino is working on donating jackpots that have not been claimed over the year.
Vee Quiva Hotel & Casino, Wild Horse Pass Hotel & Casino, and Lone Butte Casino have all had unclaimed funds.
Nonprofits in the state that have been recognized by the IRS with a 501(c)(3) status are encouraged to apply.
Every year nonprofits have received a portion of the jackpots that have not been claimed. The exact amount of money that is given away has not been released by Gila River Hotels & Casinos.
However, more charities will be able to be helped this year by the casino.
Organizations that would like to apply must send a letter of consideration, a w-9 that is signed and current, as well as a 501(c)(3) IRS letter.
The Gila River Hotels & Casinos finance department will be distributing the money from the unclaimed jackpots.
All applications must be submitted by August 18.
CHANDLER, AZ - The Gila River Indian Community announced its new Lone Butte Casino will offer high-limit gaming when it opens November 20th south of Chandler.
The $60 million, 120,000-square-foot casino replaces a smaller casino with the same name. It includes five restaurants, a concert stage, and a covered patio with fountains. There is also a $500,000 smoke-clearance system. President and CEO Harold Baugus said "It's going to be more of a neighborhood gathering place. It will have a very comfortable atmosphere."
The casino will open with 850 slot machines and 24 table games. The number slots featuring high limits and the maximum bets were not announced.
The Gila River Indian Community broke ground on their new Lone Butte Casino west of Chandler at the southeast corner of Kyrene Road and Loop 202's Santan Freeway. The $60,000 project will build a new 120,000 square-foot gaming facility to replace the current casino located on 56th Street south of the freeway.
