Overview

The Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria is a federally recognized tribe composed primarily of Coast Miwok andSouthern Pomo descendants. The tribe operates a modern government focused on cultural revitalization, environmentalstewardship, education, and economic development. Graton Resort & Casino is one of the largest tribal gamingoperations in California and supports tribal programs and community initiatives.

Membership

The tribe has more than 1,300 enrolled citizens. Membership is based on documented descent from Coast Miwok orSouthern Pomo ancestors and is governed by the tribe's enrollment ordinance.

Brief History

The Coast Miwok and Southern Pomo peoples have lived in the Marin and Sonoma County region for thousands of years.After severe population loss and displacement during the mission and early American periods, the Graton Rancheriawas established in 1920 but later terminated by the federal government in 1958. The tribe regained federalrecognition in 2000 through the Graton Rancheria Restoration Act. Since restoration, the tribe has rebuilt itsgovernment and developed major economic enterprises.
