The Philadelphia Inquirer reported on Tuesday a trend in the state's casinos. More table games are being added than slot machines. This may cause a problem with future tax revenues from gaming.

Slot machines have a higher tax rate than the table games. By adding more table games instead of slot machines, casinos can pay less in taxes to the state.

Since January, the Sands Bethlehem has added a total of 29 games. All of them were table games.

Slot machines earn the state 55 cents on every dollar gambled. The money that is earned from the gaming revenues goes to the horse racing industry, town hosting fees, and relief for property tax.

Currently table games have a tax rate of 16%. That rate will be reduced in 2012. The rate at that time will be 14%.
