September 23 is the day the state's 10th casino, SugarHouse, will open. The new
casino will have 1,600 gaming machines and 40 game tables. 800 people will also
be employed by the casino.
Officials for the casino reported that they will be running standard test days
for their gaming equipment for two days before the opening. If no errors are
reported then the doors will open to the public as planned.
During the test days, money won from the gaming will go four of Philadelphia's
nonprofit groups. The winnings will be divided equally amongst the charities.
The groups that will be given the money are: The Abramson Cancer Center of the
University of Pennsylvania, Fraternal Order of Police Survivor's Fund, Greater
Philadelphia Traditions Fund, and The Philadelphia Veterans Multi-Service &
SugarHouse is located at 1001 N. Delaware Ave in Philadelphia.
