DURANT - Thousands of people from all over the state gathered yesterday for the grand opening of the new $300 million Durant casino and hotel.



"This is a proud day for the Choctaw Nation as we open the doors and show our guests what we've been working so hard to complete," said Chief Gregory E. Pyle, "The new Choctaw Casino Resort means new opportunities for our area and we're glad to have so many guests share in our excitement."

The casino features 110,000 square feet of gambling space for 3,000 slot machines, 24 table games, a VIP poker room with 18 tables, and an 800-seat bingo hall. The new hotel is 204,000 square feet and hosts 330 rooms.

As part of the opening celebration a celebrity poker tournament is being hosted by poker pros Kathy Leibert, Tom McEvoy, and TJ Cloutier.

There are also cash giveaways including $1,000 paid every hour on Wednesday and Thursday. On Friday and Saturday the hourly prize will increase to$10,000. In addition there will be a drawing for a new Lexus.
