On Wednesday, there was an announcement made about the updates for the state's
newest casinos. 2012 is the estimated date for the grand opening of the
Cleveland casino site. The Cincinnati casino site plans to open in 2013.
Construction has started again on the casinos as reported by Rock Ohio Caesars.
Construction was stopped by the company when a provision was added by state
lawmakers. The provision was placed in the budget bill for the state. It would
have applied a tax to commercial activities made on wagers and not deduct the
winnings and the payouts. Millions of dollars would have been added the the
costs of the casinos as announced by Rock.
Negotiations proceeded and construction started again after a deal was made.
Legislature approved the plan that was agreed upon by Governor John Kasich,
Rock, and the Columbus and Toledo casino developers.
The negotiation calls for tax payment to be made to the state on the wagers
after the patrons and payouts are subtracted.
