COLUMBUS - When voters approved a casino for Columbus, that ballot measure
mandated it would be built near the city's downtown. However, there is a new
campaign under way to change the location to an old Delphi factory in Columbus.
The issue will appear on Ohio's May ballot as Issue 2.
Lisa Griffin is running the campaign. She said, "Issue 2 is simply an address
change. It allows it to be built on the Dephi plant site and be part of the
revitalization of the west side."
West Columbus has suffered with high unemployment since the Delphi plant closed.
Griffin said, "And they would like to come here to apply for jobs and friends
and family in Springfield want to come here to the casino. They don't want to go
to Indiana or West Virginia."
If Issue 2 fails, the casino will be built at the original site.
