Plans for an expansion at Harrah's Cherokee Casino Resort have been announced.
The casino resort is 20 years old. The plan will add up to 800 new hotel guest
rooms, an additional 100,000 square foot event center, and a parking deck.
The project was approved last week by the Cherokee Tribal Council. The approval
will allow for a loan of $250 million to pay for the project. It is estimated
that the cost will be between $150 million to $200 million. The $250 million
loan will allow for any overages.
Currently the event center is 16,000 square feet. There are also 1,100 guest
rooms at the hotel. The size as of now is not large enough to meet the demand
This will be the fourth tower for the hotel to be built. The new tower is
estimated to earn up to $6 million a year in revenue.
Details for the project have not been released. It has not been determined where
the new tower will be located. An architect has not been chosen. The hope is
that the project will be complete by 2020.
The new event space will be large enough to accommodate two conventions at the
same time. Visual and sound equipment that is state-of-the-art will also be
used. More than likely the design will call for a two story design.
Between 200 and 250 new jobs will be created by the project.
