On Monday a groundbreaking was held in Schenectady for the first hotel at the Rivers Casino and Resort. Two are planned for the property.
Located along the Mohawk River, the hotel will be a Courtyard by Marriott. It will have 124 guest rooms and cost $15 million to complete. The grand opening is expected to take place in the Fall of 2016.
The second hotel that will be built will have 150 guest rooms. However, no announcement has been made yet for which brand it will be.
The New York state Gaming Commission approved four Las Vegas style casinos for the Upstate region. The licenses have not been given yet. However it is expected that by the end of this year that the four casinos will receive them.
