New York's Southern Tier is the only area that is designated for the for
remaining state casino license. However, only one applicant has shown interest
in obtaining it.
On Tuesday, the state gaming board gave permission to begin the casino license
bidding process again.
Three of the four licenses had been awarded. Schenectady, the Finger Lakes, and
the Catskills were areas that had been approved for the casino licenses. However
the Southern Tier was not given a license. Even with two applicants that had
shown interest in the region.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo requested that the board reopen the bidding for the Southern
Tier.
Tioga Downs racino intends to apply after their previous bid is revised.
Kevin Law is the location board chairman. He is hopeful that other applications
will be submitted as well.
