The winning bids for the four upstate New York casinos will be made soon.
Sixteen applicants applied for the four available casino licenses. Over $10
million was spent on campaign donations and lobbying over two years by
developers and cities. However, the state board members will consider the
proposed casinos based on individual plans. Criteria will include the impact on
the economy in the area. As well as the proposed casino's viability. Politics
will not be a factor in their choice.
The upstate region was divided into three areas for the future casinos. They are
the Southern Tier-Finger Lakes region, the Albany-Saratoga area, and the
Catskills and mid-Hudson Valley.
The winning applicants will be decided on at the Gaming Facility Location Board
meeting on Wednesday. The meeting will take place in Albany.
