New York casino license applications are being reviewed. A three day public hearing debate has been completed. 16 applications were submitted by developers interested in building a casino in upstate.
During the public hearing critics and supporters spoke before the board. Hundreds of people showed at the meetings.
Developers that submitted their applications spoke before the board at the beginning of September.
It is estimated that the Gaming Commission will receive a recommendation for locations in October by the Gaming Facility Location Board. There are three regions that have been approved for future casinos. They are the Finger Lakes/Southern Tier, the Capital Region, and the Catskills/Hudson Valley. There are also four casino licenses available.
The Gaming Commission requires proposed casinos to submit a state environmental review and conduct background checks before an applicant can receive a gaming license.
