Construction for the Downs of Albuquerque has encountered a problem that will
delay the progression.
An issue with the soil was discovered. Engineers have reported that areas of
land where the casino is being built are not compacted to meet the standard. Due
to this, it is expected that casino will now open a month later than planned.
The new 65,000 square foot casino has also caused an issue for the New Mexico
State Fair. The construction has taken over 300 of the available parking spaces.

In January of this year, a 25 year long lease was approved to the Downs of
Albuquerque. This approval came from the State Fair Commission and allowed for
the casino to be built on the fairground property.
