Starting February 24, the Showboat Casino Hotel will be opening its doors to dog owners. This will be Atlantic City's first dog-friendly casino. The program, called Pet Stay, has already been in effect at 8 casino hotels in Las Vegas. Bally's, Harrah's Resort and Caesars may also start the program if it is well received.

The Showboat's New Orleans Tower will designate 9 hotel rooms for the dogs to stay in. Reservations for the rooms will begin on February 14. However, the 24th is the first night the dogs will be allowed to stay in the hotel. Guest will be able to take their dogs to the lobby and other public areas. However, they will not be allowed in restaurants, bars, shops, spa, or casino floor.

Each of the 9 Pet Stay rooms will have dishes for food and water, a mat, waste bags, and doggy treats. The rooms will also come with welcome packets that show where routes for dog walking and outdoor relief areas.

A promotional party is being planned. It will be held on March 3. During the party, the casino will donate $1,000 to the Ocean City Humane Society. A $40 fee will be added to the rooms for people wishing to bring their dogs. However as part of the promotion, the hotel will wave the fee for the first 2 weeks.
Only dogs will be allowed to stay as part of the pet stay program. No other types of pets are allowed.
